Not every surgery needs 24/7 nursing. Your surgeon determines which mode applies to your procedure. General guide:

When is this decided?
Your surgeon confirms the mode in your medical video consultation after reviewing your case. If your procedure requires REHAUS, it's included in your quote. If you can choose between hotel and house, Edith shows you both options and their impact on total cost.
Nursing and medications
The level of clinical care depends on where you recover. Both modes include your medications and access to your medical team.
AT THE RECOVERY HOUSE
24/7 in-house nursing
- Nursing staff physically present 24/7, rotating shifts.
- Medications included in your Wellum Care package and administered by nursing on schedule.
- Vital signs monitoring, daily wound care, drain management.
- Manual lymphatic drainage per surgeon's instructions (typically 3–5 sessions).
- Prepared meals appropriate for your post-op.
- Hyperbaric chamber available at REHAUS for accelerated recovery (when indicated).
AT THE HOTEL
Wellum-guided self-care
- Medications delivered with detailed instructions in English and Spanish.
- Your surgeon and coordinator available 24/7 via WhatsApp or call.
- Clear post-op instructions printed + digital, including warning signs.
- Surgeon visits per your procedure's protocol.
- Transport to follow-up appointments included in the package.
- If something changes, we can coordinate a nursing visit to the hotel or move you to a recovery house.
Follow-ups with your surgeon
Frequency depends on the procedure. Your surgeon defines the plan during your immediate post-op and Edith coordinates each visit.
What each visit includes
- Surgeon's clinical review (wounds, drains, overall recovery).
- Medication adjustments if needed.
- Specific instructions for the following days.
- Conversation with translator if you prefer.
- Confirmation of next step (next visit or flight clearance).
Transport and logistics
- Transport to follow-up appointments included in your Wellum Care.
- Pickup and return to your recovery house or hotel.
- Accompaniment with coordinator if you need it.
- Translator available at every clinical visit.
- In-office visits or telemedicine as your surgeon decides.
If something doesn't feel right
Wellum is in constant communication with you and with your recovery house. At any hour, this is the protocol:
WhatsApp or call your coordinator 24/7. If you're at the recovery house, also alert the nursing staff on-site. Describe what's happening in detail.
Nursing or coordinator does initial evaluation. We have emergency contacts for all surgeons — we activate them to consult the next step.
If ER is needed, Wellum coordinates transport to Puerta de Hierro. Available 24/7. The surgeon is informed and ready.
Signs that need immediate contact
Fever > 101°F (38.5°C), sudden increase in pain, heavy bleeding, difficulty breathing, significant asymmetric swelling, or anything that worries you. Don't wait — contacting us is free and fast.
