Frequently Asked Questions

Wellum is a medical tourism facilitator agency that accompanies international patients throughout the entire process to receive high-quality medical care in Mexico, from the first contact to post-procedure follow-up.

No. Wellum is not a clinic or a hospital. We collaborate with certified specialist doctors and high-level private hospitals, coordinating all medical and logistical aspects of the process.

We mainly serve patients from the United States and Canada who are seeking specialized medical care in Mexico, either for themselves or for family members living abroad.

The process is simple and guided:

  1. First contact and collection of medical information.
  2. Virtual assessment by the specialist.
  3. Personalized proposal.
  4. Coordination of medical agenda and logistics.
  5. Accompaniment during your stay.
  6. Post-procedure follow-up.

Our primary focus and core expertise is Ophthalmology, specifically advanced vision restoration and corrective procedures. While we specialize in eye care, we also coordinate high-quality treatment with certified specialists in other key areas to provide a comprehensive experience for our international patients.

Our current offerings include:

  • Ophthalmology (Primary Focus): Specializing in Cataract surgery, Lasik, and Smile procedures.
  • Dentistry: High-end restorative and cosmetic services, including Dental Veneers and Implants.
  • Plastic Surgery: Focused on facial rejuvenation through Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) and Botox applications.
  • Orthopedics: Specialized joint care, including Knee Arthroplasty and Shoulder Arthroplasty.

We are actively expanding our network and will be introducing more medical specialties very soon to continue meeting the diverse needs of our patients.

Citizens of the United States and Canada do not require a visa for short stays in Mexico.

Communication is maintained primarily via email, phone calls, video calls, or WhatsApp chat, without limiting other contact channels for continuous attention.

In cataract surgery, a premium intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted, selected in a personalized manner according to each patient's visual needs. At Wellum, we use high-quality lenses from the Alcon Clareon® family.

There are three main options:

  • Monofocal: Clear distance vision (requires reading glasses).
  • Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF): Excellent distance vision and functional intermediate/near vision, without halos or glare.
  • Trifocal: Distance, intermediate, and near vision, with greater independence from glasses.

In some cases, technology can be combined in both eyes using the Mix & Match technique to optimize visual results.

The surgery is performed using FLACS (Femto Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery) technology, where a femtosecond laser automates the most delicate steps of the procedure, increasing precision and safety. At Wellum, we use Alcon's LensX® equipment, specifically designed for cataract surgery.

Approximately 20 minutes per eye. For safety, usually only one eye is operated on per day.

Yes. It is an outpatient procedure performed with anesthetic drops and under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. The patient can return to their accommodation the same day.

Initial recovery is quick. In most cases, the patient notices visual improvement the day following the procedure.

The specialist performs a complete medical assessment and considers:

  • The patient's daily activities.
  • Visual needs (reading, computer use, driving, etc.).
  • Preference regarding the use of glasses.
  • Specific conditions of each eye.
Based on this, the most suitable lens type is recommended.

It is a technique that combines different types of intraocular lenses in each eye to achieve excellent distance and near vision without relying on glasses. Wellum has over six years of experience applying this technique with highly satisfactory results.
