Are the doctors and hospitals certified?

Yes. All doctors we collaborate with hold current certifications and extensive experience, and the hospitals comply with strict safety, hygiene, and quality protocols.

What medical technology is used?

Depending on the procedure, internationally recognized state-of-the-art technology is used. Each patient receives clear and transparent information about the technology that will be used in their specific case.

Are your surgeons board-certified?

Yes. Every surgeon in our network is board-certified by the corresponding Mexican Council of Specialty (Consejo Mexicano de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva for plastic surgery; Consejo Mexicano de Oftalmología for vision; equivalent boards for dentistry and orthopedics). Most of our surgeons also hold international training credentials (United States, Brazil, Spain, or Europe) and active memberships in international societies such as ISAPS, AAO, or AAOS. We share each surgeon's full credentials, training history, and case portfolio during your medical video consultation.

What is JCI accreditation, and why does it matter for my surgery?

JCI (Joint Commission International) is the same gold-standard accreditation used by leading hospitals in the United States. It audits clinical safety, infection control, medication management, and patient rights. Our partner hospital, Puerta de Hierro Medical Center, is JCI-accredited and additionally certified by the Consejo de Salubridad General — Mexico's federal hospital accreditation body, equivalent to the US TJC. It also holds the Distintivo H for hygiene standards and is an authorized American Heart Association training center for advanced resuscitation protocols. What happens if I experience a complication after surgery?

Patient safety is our top priority. Here's how we handle it: In-hospital recovery monitoring at Puerta de Hierro before discharge. Recovery hotel or recovery house within minutes of the hospital, with 24/7 access to your Wellum coordinator while you remain in Guadalajara. Direct access to your surgeon for any concern during your stay — same-day clinic visit if needed. 12 weeks of post-op follow-up from the Wellum team, including weekly video check-ins with your surgeon, so anything unusual is caught early. Detailed discharge protocol in English and Spanish that you can share with your local doctor at home. Do I need a visa to travel to Mexico?

Citizens of the United States and Canada do not require a visa for short stays in Mexico.

Do I need to travel to Mexico for the initial assessment?

Not necessarily. In many cases, the initial assessment can be done remotely by reviewing medical records and conducting virtual consultations when necessary.

How many days must I stay in Mexico?

The length of stay depends on the type of procedure and medical recommendations. Our team will guide you from the beginning to ensure proper trip planning.

Does Wellum help with flights, lodging, and transportation?

Yes. We can support the coordination of flights, lodging, and local transportation according to each patient's needs. If a complete package is purchased (Flights, Lodging, and Procedure), ground transportation is included as a courtesy.

Will I have accompaniment throughout the process?

Yes. Our team accompanies the patient before, during, and after the procedure, resolving doubts and facilitating communication with the medical team.

How is communication maintained during the process?

Communication is maintained primarily via email, phone calls, video calls, or WhatsApp chat, without limiting other contact channels for continuous attention.

What happens if I have questions after returning to my country?

We coordinate remote follow-up with the specialist and remain available to resolve any doubts after the procedure.

Do your team and surgeons speak English?

Yes. Your dedicated Wellum coordinator is fully bilingual and stays with you from the first message through your return home. Our partner surgeons either speak English directly or work with a bilingual medical translator during your consultation, surgery briefing, and follow-up. What kind of post-op care does Wellum provide?

Recovery doesn't end when you fly home — it ends 12 weeks later. How is recovery from plastic surgery different from cosmetic vs. reconstructive procedures?

Recovery depends on the procedure, not whether it's cosmetic or reconstructive. What matters is the extent of tissue work: Minimally invasive (Botox®, fillers, eyelid): 1–3 days social downtime. Single-area surgery (rhinoplasty, breast aug): 5–10 days visible recovery, 4–6 weeks full activity. Combined procedures (Mommy Makeover, 360 Lipo + BBL): 10–14 days in Mexico, 6–8 weeks full activity, 3–6 months for final result. What is the difference between a Mommy Makeover and 360 Liposculpture + BBL?

Both are popular combined procedures, but they target different goals: Mommy Makeover: Designed to restore the body after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Typically combines a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast lift or augmentation, and liposuction of the flanks. Best for women with skin laxity and separated abdominal muscles. 360 Liposculpture + BBL: Focused on body contouring without major skin removal. Liposuction is performed across the abdomen, flanks, and back, and the harvested fat is purified and re-injected to enhance the buttocks. How do I know which surgeon is right for my procedure?

During your 30-minute medical video consultation ($99 USD refundable), we match you with the board-certified surgeon in our network whose subspecialty, technique, and case history best fit your goals. You'll receive their full credentials, before/after portfolio, and answers to your specific questions. If you'd like a second opinion from another surgeon in our network, we arrange it for you.

What type of lenses are used for cataract surgeries?

In cataract surgery, a premium intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted, selected in a personalized manner according to each patient's visual needs. At Wellum, we use high-quality lenses from the Alcon Clareon® family. There are three main options: Monofocal: Clear distance vision (requires reading glasses). Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF): Excellent distance vision and functional intermediate/near vision, without halos or glare. Trifocal: Distance, intermediate, and near vision, with greater independence from glasses. In some cases, technology can be combined in both eyes using the Mix & Match technique to optimize visual results.

How is laser cataract surgery performed?

The surgery is performed using FLACS (Femto Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery) technology, where a femtosecond laser automates the most delicate steps of the procedure, increasing precision and safety. At Wellum, we use Alcon's LensX® equipment, specifically designed for cataract surgery.

How long does cataract surgery take?

Approximately 20 minutes per eye. For safety, usually only one eye is operated on per day.

Is the surgery outpatient?

Yes. It is an outpatient procedure performed with anesthetic drops and under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. The patient can return to their accommodation the same day.

How long is the recovery time after cataract surgery?

Initial recovery is quick. In most cases, the patient notices visual improvement the day following the procedure.

How is the right intraocular lens chosen for each patient?

The specialist performs a complete medical assessment and considers: The patient's daily activities. Visual needs (reading, computer use, driving, etc.). Preference regarding the use of glasses. Specific conditions of each eye. Based on this, the most suitable lens type is recommended.

What is the "Mix & Match" technique in cataract surgery?

It is a technique that combines different types of intraocular lenses in each eye to achieve excellent distance and near vision without relying on glasses. Wellum has over six years of experience applying this technique with highly satisfactory results.

Why are medical costs in Mexico so much lower than in the US or Canada?

Lower price does not mean lower quality. Three structural factors explain the difference: Currency and cost of living: Surgeon salaries, hospital staff, and operating costs in Mexico are denominated in pesos, which are structurally lower than US/Canadian wages — the same surgical hour costs less to produce. No insurance overhead: Mexican healthcare doesn't carry the administrative cost of US private insurance billing, malpractice insurance premiums, or hospital network markups, which together can represent 30–50% of US procedure prices. Direct surgeon-patient pricing: Our partner surgeons set transparent flat fees with no third-party intermediary inflating the cost. The technology, surgical technique, and hospital infrastructure are equivalent — many of our surgeons trained in the US, Brazil, or Europe and use the same FDA-approved devices and implants used at home.

What is included in the Wellum package price?

Every Wellum quote is fully transparent. Does the price include follow-up?

Yes. The 12 weeks of post-op care from the Wellum team and weekly video check-ins with your surgeon are included in every package. The exact scope is documented in your quote before you commit.

What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept wire transfer and major debit/credit cards through a secure payment processor. Monthly payment plans via medical financing partners are coming soon — ask your coordinator for the latest options during your free consultation.

How does payment actually work? Wire, card, deposit timing?

We make payment as straightforward as possible for international patients: Booking deposit (refundable): A small deposit holds your surgery date and surgeon's calendar slot. Payable by credit card via our US-registered payment processor (Stripe). Fully refundable up to 30 days before surgery, partially refundable within 30 days based on costs already committed to your case. Are there any hidden fees once I arrive in Mexico?

No. The quote you receive in writing 24 hours after your video consultation is the price you pay. The only situation where additional cost may apply is if you choose an add-on procedure during your stay (for example, adding a separate treatment to your surgery date) — and any add-on is quoted in writing and approved by you before it happens.

Does my U.S. health insurance cover treatment in Mexico?

Most U.S. health plans do not cover elective procedures abroad, and international medical travel is typically self-pay. However, some HSA and FSA accounts can be used for medical procedures abroad — check with your plan administrator. We can provide invoices in the format your plan requires for potential reimbursement.

Are there hidden fees?

No. Every line in your quote is itemized — surgeon, hospital, IOLs or implants, anesthesia, accommodation. The total at the bottom is what you pay. The only items not in your quote are international flights, meals beyond hotel breakfast, personal medications, and optional travel insurance, and we list those explicitly so you can plan around them.

How long is my quote valid?

Quotes are valid for 60 days from the issue date. If the MXN/USD exchange rate fluctuates by more than 5% during that window, line items denominated in MXN may be adjusted with prior written notice. Stable currency = stable price.

Can I get a quote without committing to anything?

Yes. The calculator gives you an instant estimated range with no information required. You can also schedule a free 20-minute coordinator call to discuss your case before paying anything. Only the medical consultation with the actual surgeon requires the $99 refundable deposit.

What if I need to cancel after paying for the medical consultation?

If you cancel at least 24 hours before your scheduled consultation, your $99 is refunded in full. If you cancel within 24 hours, we apply the deposit as credit toward a rescheduled consultation. No-shows are not refunded — the surgeon's time was reserved for you.

Why is medical care less expensive in Mexico?

Lower operational costs (real estate, malpractice insurance, support staff salaries) translate to lower prices without compromising quality. Wellum partners only with internationally accredited or nationally certified hospitals (with on-site ICU) and surgeons with U.S.-equivalent training and certifications.
